Once your Account Administrator enables two-step authentication, you'll need to configure your authentication device to sign in securely with two-step authentication.

Before you start

  • You'll need to access a two-step or two-factor authentication app on your device such as Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator, Authy or Authenticator Plus.

  • Review the documentation for your specific authenticator app for more details on configuring two-step authentication on your device.

  • If you lose or replace your device, you must contact an Account Administrator to reset or turn off two-step authentication for your user account.

How to configure your authentication device

If you've not configured two-step authentication and attempt to sign into the ExpenseIn mobile app, you'll be prompted by the following message.

To configure your authentication device, complete the following steps:

1. Navigate to the ExpenseIn Web Portal, enter your login credentials and tap Sign In.

You'll then be presented with a list of configuration steps and a unique QR code.

Note: If your authenticator app allows you to scan QR codes using an image, you may want to take a screenshot of this screen to use in the third step if you are continuing to use a mobile device to set up two-step authentication.

2. Open your authenticator app.

3. In the app, add a new account and scan the QR code. You can do this by using the screenshot taken earlier, if your authenticator app allows.

Note: If your authenticator app requires you to scan the QR code, you'll need to log into the ExpenseIn Web Portal on a separate device and use your mobile to scan the QR code.

4. Once configured in your authenticator app, go back to ExpenseIn and enter the current 6-digit verification code provided by the authenticator app.

Note: Each authentication code generated by your authenticator app is only valid for a short period of time. If you are not entering the code quick enough, the code may be rejected by our system.

5. Click Configure & Sign in to finish the configuration.

Once two-step authentication has been fully configured, each time you log into your ExpenseIn account you'll need to sign in with two-step authentication.

How to sign in with two-step authentication

To sign in with two-step authentication, follow the steps below:

1. Open the ExpenseIn Mobile App, enter your login credentials and tap Sign In.

3. Return to the ExpenseIn mobile app and enter the current 6-digit authentication code before it expires.
