What is the difference between a Physical, Virtual and Subscription Card?

The ExpenseIn Cards module offers three different card types: the Physical Expense Card, the Virtual Expense Card and the Subscription Card. Use the sections below to learn more about each card type and how they work.

Physical Expense Card

A Physical Expense Card is an ExpenseIn-branded plastic card that can be used for both in-person and online purchases.

Key Features:

  • Supports contactless, chip and PIN, and online payments.

  • Can be added to a digital wallet (e.g., Apple Wallet or Google Wallet).

  • Typically delivered by post within 5-7 working days after ordering.

  • Every transaction automatically creates a draft expense in ExpenseIn for the user to attach a receipt.

Virtual Expense Card

A Virtual Expense Card is a digital-only card that can be used for online or mobile-based purchases.

Key Features:

  • Supports online and mobile-based payments.

  • Can be added to digital wallet (e.g., Apple Wallet or Google Wallet).

  • Issued instantly, allowing immediate use.

  • Every transaction automatically creates a draft expense in ExpenseIn for the user to attach a receipt.

Subscription Card

A Subscription Card is a virtual card designed specifically for recurring or subscription-based payments. It's commonly used for services such as AWS, Google Ads, and other platforms requiring ongoing payments.

Key Features:

  • Supports online recurring or subscription transactions.

  • Can't be added to a digital wallet.

  • Issued instantly, allowing immediate use.

  • Transactions don't automatically create draft expenses in ExpenseIn.
