Once successfully logged into the ExpenseIn mobile app, follow the steps below to capture a receipt:

1. At the bottom right-hand corner of the home screen, tap the camera icon or the '+' icon and select 'New Receipt from camera'.

2. When your device camera opens, take a photo of your receipt.

Note: If you take a photo of multiple receipts, the system cannot scan the receipt data. Receipt data will only be scanned where they have not yet been attached to an expense.

3. Confirm you're happy with the photo of your receipt or take a new photo.

  • If you have an Android device, tap Ok to use the photo or Retry to take another photo of your receipt.

  • If you have an iOS device, tap Use Photo to use the photo or Retake to take another photo of your receipt.

4. Enter the receipt information by adding a memo and selecting the purchase method.

Note: We recommend adding a memo to your receipt as this will populate the description box and category when you create the expense.

5. Tap Done to add the receipt to your My Expenses account.

How to find your new receipt

The new receipt will be sent to the Unattached section of the Receipts area.

The scanning process will extract the Date, Merchant, Amount, VAT amount and Currency. This process takes approximately one minute. Once scanned, the receipt will have a blue scanned icon on it in the bottom right corner.

If you added a memo to your receipt, ExpenseIn will use AI to automatically select the expense category based on the categories visible to you for selection.

Note: If the incorrect pre-populated category was selected, you can override the category when completing your expense.

How to create an expense from your captured receipt

To create an expense from your receipt follow the steps below:

1. Tap the receipt, then tap the Create an expense icon found at the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.

Note: You can also touch and hold the receipt and tap Quick Purchase from the options menu to create a purchase expense.

2. Select the type of expense you want to create from the options menu.

3. Enter the details on your expense.

4. Tap Save to add the expense to your Draft expenses section.

You can view your draft expense in the Draft section of the Expenses area.
